DECEMBER, 2023

I would like to wish everyone in the Hedland community a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Peter Carter, Town of Port Hedland Mayor

Mayor Peter Carter

The Town of Port Hedland's annual Festive Lights competition has again brought the community together and helped brighten neighbourhoods throughout Hedland.

There were so many amazing entrants again this year, making it a hard job for the judges to pick the winners! I'd encourage everyone to get out and about, follow our trail map and check out the wonderful displays.

The last Ordinary Council Meeting of 2023 was held on 13 December and it was a huge agenda with many important items endorsed.

Many of the Town's facilities will be closed or have restricted services over the Christmas period. Click on the link below to check the  opening hours for all the Town facilities.

I would like to wish everyone in the Hedland community a Merry Christmas and happy and safe New Year. See you all in 2024!

Construction progressing at Marina

Pilbara Ports is making strong progress on the construction of the main entry road, carpark and maintenance hardstand. Sealing works started in November, and asphalt is being placed in December.

Construction of the public amenities building is under way. The building is made of rammed earth and will feature six toilets, a communications room and plant room.

Please note, the Spoilbank Marina is still an active construction site and not yet open to the community.

The $187.5 million Spoilbank Marina is being managed by Pilbara Ports, and is funded by the State Government, Town of Port Hedland and BHP

Ranger Review

Vehicle access on Spoilbank Beach will have limited access from Tuesday 12 December until further notice.

The closure comes after several turtle tracks were observed close to Spoilbank Road which, while uncommon, means the Town has a responsibility to do everything we can to protect our Flatback turtle friends.

The portion of Spoilbank beach stretching from the Sailing Club sea containers to Cemetery Beach will be closed to vehicle access.

We apologise for the inconvenience, however we urge people to do the right thing and not drive on Spoilbank Beach while it is closed. If you see someone doing the wrong thing, contact us on (08) 9158 9300.

Projects Propelling Hedland

The Town of Port Hedland Council has endorsed concept designs for the JD Adventure Park.

The Adventure Park is the third phase of a staged expansion of the JD Youth and Community Hub – a project which began in 2019.

The proposed Park includes both a jump and pump track, parkour area with shade and art wall, community shelter with BBQ facilities, bicycle repair station as well as planting and open space.

Town of Port Hedland Mayor Peter Carter said the Adventure Park would contribute to the liveability of Hedland.

“We want people to choose to live in Hedland, and that requires providing the social and recreational infrastructure that people expect from a leading regional Town like Hedland,” Mayor Carter said.

The project will proceed to the second design stage, which will include developing further detail for the design of the park, including materials and specific dimensions.
