The Town of Port Hedland has entered into an important partnership with environmental association Care for Hedland.
The three-year partnership was endorsed at the May Ordinary Council meeting and it will help the Town deliver aspects of its new Environmental Sustainability Strategy 2022-2027.
This strategy provides a framework to protect the Hedland environment while supporting growth, and lays out objectives and
actions the Town is committed to fulfilling.
Care for Hedland has had a huge month or so, celebrating its 20th birthday in late May while founder Kelly Howlett received a King’s Birthday honour as a Member of the Order of Australia.

Rates to decrease |
The Town of Port Hedland’s yield from residential rates will decrease in the 2023/24 financial year as a result of its endorsed rating strategy.

The Town of Port Hedland has won the Best Regional Industry Contribution award at the 2023 Parks and Leisure Australia WA Awards of Excellence for its South Hedland Youth Placemaking Program.

Spoilbank Marina June Update |

The project recently hit a big milestone, with the marina basin excavation now complete. The removal of the bund wall is under way and will see the basin connect to the ocean and become tidal.
All 49 piles in the marina basin have been installed, leaving only nine piles to place outside the marina for navigation aids.
The 760-metre marina basin rock wall is almost complete, with less than 50 metres left to build.
The $187.5 million Spoilbank Marina is being managed by the Pilbara Ports Authority, and is funded by the State Government, Town of Port Hedland and BHP

Rangers have noted an increase in illegal camping throughout the Town in recent weeks.
This has included campers at Six Mile and at the boat ramp in Port
Hedland.
People are reminded the only approved camping areas are caravan parks or the RV overflow area.

FIRES PROMPT RECYCLING WARNING
|
There have been three fires caused by residents putting hazardous items in their yellow-lid recycling bin over the last few weeks.
The fires have been caused by household batteries, however other non-recyclable items from Hedland loads recently have included green waste, computer parts, animal bones and waste, nappies, clothes and shoes.
