AUGUST 2024 |
|
Hedland's music, arts and culture scene will be celebrated over the next two weeks with an array of events and something for everyone. |

Hedland’s vibrant and diverse music, arts and culture will be celebrated with two weeks of entertainment, live shows and workshops as the Odyssea Music and Arts Journey returns this weekend!
The festival kicks off in style this weekend, 17 August with the Tunes of the Turf concert at the Milpaku Kuma / Port Hedland Community Centre featuring renowned Australian indie rock acts Jebediah and DICE.
Events such as Odyssea are important in remote areas like Hedland, which are sometimes starved of opportunities for live music and artistic performances.
There will be a diverse array of events including live music and comedy, interactive workshops and markets. I encourage everyone to come along and support the local and visiting artists!

Main shade structures installed |
|
|
|
An exciting milestone at the Spoilbank Marina has been reached with the installation of the main shade artwork commencing.
Created by local Kariyarra artist, Wendy Warrie, the artwork will add a bold and colourful feature to the Marina.
The artwork has over 400 individual panels, over 8000 screws to be installed and forms a wave-like pattern on the underside of the structure.
The public amenities building shade structural streel structure was also installed earlier this month.

CORELLA MANAGEMENT
Corellas are long-lived, highly intelligent birds that learn from each other. They are increasingly common in the urban landscape of Western Australia, especially here in the Pilbara.
Unfortunately there is little the Town of Port Hedland can do to deter corella nuisance, as Western and Little corellas are a native species protected under the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016.
Corellas are also a Category 3 declared pest under the Biosecurity and Agriculture Management Regulations 2013 which requires landholders to undertake some form of management.
Property owners/occupiers that experience nuisance issues need to undertake their own management controls to protect and relieve nuisance on their own properties or private land.
The Town of Port Hedland recommends landowners seek out pest management equipment online.
There are a range of measures you can take to reduce the number of Corellas on your property, and decrease potential damage/destruction they may cause:

Pre-cyclone green waste collection |
|
Cyclone season is just around the corner, which means it's time to clear excess green waste from your property.
It is important to minimise the risk of flying debris during a cyclonic weather event.
Please make sure all kerbside green waste is no longer than 1.5 metres in length and does not cause any obstruction to roads, pathways, and building infrastructure.
The Town will start collecting kerbside green waste from Monday 2 September, so please have your green waste ready, and on your verge by this date.
The Town is committed to creating a safe and resilient community, and is taking proactive steps to minimise risk in the lead up to cyclone season.
