Landside construction progressing

Pilbara Ports continues to make strong progress on the final stage of the marina development.

  • Installation of the first public artwork – the ‘Gathering Marker’ designed by Kariyarra and Yindjibarndi artist Sharon Warrie.
  • Installation of the boardwalk connecting Sutherland Street and the western area of the marina.
  • More than 175 mature trees have now been planted.

The $187 million Spoilbank Marina is being delivered by Pilbara Ports, and is funded by the State Government, Town of Port Hedland and BHP

Playground improvement works

The Town is committed to providing quality amenities for the community to enjoy, and playground improvements at Yikara Park will provide great new equipment for the community.

Works will begin on 29 July and are estimated to finish in late September. The playground will be closed during this time.

Trees with surface spreading roots are causing the playground's softfall to uplift, creating uneven ground and will unfortunately need to be removed. This will make the playground safe and enjoyable for years to come.

The large shade structures will stay in place and trees will be replanted in the area after works have been completed.

Ranger Review

CAT TRAPPING

Do you have stray cats wandering around your home, street, or area? The Town has free traps for you to hire.

We deliver, set them up, and teach you how to reset them. We also provide the first bait lure, and when you are done with a caught cat or not - we collect it - all for free.

However, the Town strongly discourages people from purchasing and setting up their own traps. We take no responsibility for any damage to your own traps, and we are often unable to transfer cats from them as the trap style prevents safe handling. The Town does not do collections from homes for private trapping.

If you do organise your own trapping, you will also need to arrange your own transport of the trapped animal to the vet, or be prepared to transfer the cat to a cat carrier box yourself before the rangers impound it.

To humanely assist with cat trapping, please consider the Town's free service.
