The Town is a proud supporter of Pride Week to promote a diverse and inclusive community |
Peter Carter, Town of Port Hedland Mayor |

The Town has been a proud supporting of Pride Week from 18-22 June, and there has been plenty happening in Hedland to help celebrate diversity.
Creating a diverse and inclusive community is one part of the Town's vision, and we have this week hosted the Rainbow Storytime event at the South Hedland Library.
And on Friday night, 21 June, the Pride-themed Sunset Food Markets will be held at Marapikurrinya Park from 5:00pm - 9:00pm. The movie Kinky Boots will also be shown on an outdoor screen from 8:30pm, so make sure you get down early, grab some tasty food and drinks from the local vendors and enjoy the night. |

Electric vehicle charging station installed |
|
|
Port Hedland’s first Electric Vehicle Charging Station was successfully installed at the marina last month.
Horizon Power has been seeking a location in Port Hedland for some time, as part of the WA Government’s electric highway initiative. The Electric Vehicle Charging Station is part of the final stage of construction which will open to the public later this year.
Please note, while the boat ramp and car park are now open to the public, the Spoilbank Marina remains an active construction site. Please adhere to signage instructions on site.

Ranger Review |
|
Roosters in residential areas
The Town is happy to support residents keeping chickens at their homes and has established a section of our local laws that outlines all the necessary requirements to ensure chickens are kept safely, without causing odour or pest issues for neighbours.
However, it is illegal to keep roosters on residential properties. Roosters create significant noise problems and can make you extremely unpopular with your neighbours. If rangers identify a rooster at your residence due to complaints, you will be directed to relocate the rooster to an appropriate site out of town and will likely face infringements. |

Projects Propelling Hedland |
|
|
|
Town of Port Hedland councillors have adopted a business case to open the way for a major land transaction to purchase a Cottier Drive block earmarked for the Town’s service worker housing project.
A concept plan for the South Hedland Service Worker Housing project proposes 76 houses of various design to be built on the 2.64 hectare allotment on Cottier Drive in South Hedland.
The project is designed to offer affordable housing for workers in sectors such as education, tourism, childcare, retail and hospitality.
The Town plans to purchase the block of land, but before a major land transaction can be undertaken, a business plan must be prepared.
Councillors endorsed adoption of the business plan at the May meeting. |

Hedland's Public Art Masterplan |
|
|
|
Public art in Hedland signals who we are, the value we place on creativity, cultural heritage and the natural environment, and reflects the diverse communities who call Hedland home.
The Town of Port Hedland is reviewing its Public Art Masterplan and we want to hear from you. The Masterplan will guide the Town's direction of future sculptures, murals, entry statements, installations and where they are best built, over the next 15 years.
Take part in the Town of Port Hedland Public Art Masterplan survey to help shape how public art in Hedland shares our history, brings public spaces to life and creates opportunities for our local creative community.
