First trees planted at marina |

|
|
The Spoilbank Marina project hit an exciting milestone recently, with the planting of the first trees.
Pilbara Ports will be planting around 700 trees at the marina, featuring 12 different varieties.
The landscaping will also include 90,000 other plants. This includes tubestock to revegetate parts of the Spoilbank, as well as thousands of small to medium-sized shrubs and garden beds throughout the landscaped areas.
The $187 million Spoilbank Marina is being delivered by Pilbara Ports, and is funded by the State Government, Town of Port Hedland and BHP |

A burning topic: Campfires are not permitted in backyards
With the cooler weather finally here, the Town Rangers have recently noticed more backyard campfires.
Please know this is not allowed. All kinds of fires are banned in the Town of Port Hedland LGA all year round due to the Pilbara’s hot and arid climate. This includes fire pits, incinerators, backyard burning or burn-offs.
This regulation is in place to ensure everyone's safety while minimising smoke nuisance to nearby residents.
Cooking fires however are permitted, and include BBQs, woodfired ovens, pellet smokers, and coal-fired cookers.
By limiting fires to those designated for cooking purposes only, people can still enjoy an outdoor cooking experience.

Yikara Park playground is being upgraded, with new playground equipment being installed.
The Town is committed to providing quality amenities for the community to enjoy, and the improvements will provide great new equipment for children to enjoy.
Six trees that are causing major issues due to roots causing uplift of the ground, will have to be removed to make the playground safe and enjoyable into the future.
The trees will be replaced by more suitable species, and shade structures at the playground will remain.
The playground will be closed for seven weeks for the duration of the works, that are expected to start on 15 July. |
