May 2026

It has been a busy and highly productive period for Council, with significant projects, forward planning and strong advocacy efforts underway to support our growing community.

Among council and all areas of the organisation, there is a shared commitment to doing the necessary work and, importantly, continuing to listen to the voices of our ratepayers and residents.

I was especially pleased to see the success of the Celebrate Hedland community expo, which brought more than 2,000 people together at the JD Hardie Youth & Community Hub. With over 60 stallholders, including local businesses, community groups and service providers, the event showcased the very best of Hedland. It was fantastic to see families enjoying a vibrant afternoon and evening of entertainment, activities and connection, all in a welcoming, accessible space that reflects our community spirit.

We are also making important progress on key priorities. The advertisement of our Local Housing Strategy marks a significant step forward as we work alongside government and industry to address housing challenges in Hedland. In addition, the expansion of the Rose Nowers Childcare Centre is an important development that will help ensure local families have access to essential services, supporting our community to grow and prosper.

As we move forward, Council remains focused on delivering our priorities by working together and continuing to listen closely to our community. By keeping community voices at the centre of our decision-making, we are ensuring that the work we do today reflects the needs and aspirations of Hedland now and into the future.

🍪 Keeping our community and our food safe 🍕

If you prepare or sell food in Port Hedland, having the correct food business licence isn’t just a legal requirement, it’s essential for keeping our community safe.

Under WA health food laws, all food businesses must be registered with the local government. This ensures that food is prepared, stored and served safely, reducing the risk of foodborne illness and protecting public health. Whether you’re running a café, market stall, catering business or community event - registering your food business helps the Town monitor food safety standards and provide guidance to operators.

For more information on food business requirements, licensing and safety guidelines, visit the Town of Port Hedland website available here or contact the Environmental Health team.
