June 2025

It’s been a fantastic few weeks in the Town of Port Hedland, with plenty to celebrate across our community.

We proudly celebrated Pilbara Pride Week, standing alongside our LGBTQIA+ community with other local stakeholders to showcase our support, and celebrate inclusion and diversity.

Congratulations to our recent grant recipients, whose projects are helping strengthen local connections and opportunities.

Care for Hedland's Food Waste Diversion Program has also kicked off, helping households reduce waste and protect our environment.

Finally, don’t forget to mark your calendar for Spinifex Spree next month! A favourite event on the Hedland events calendar, and an unmissable celebration of community fun, food and entertainment. I look forward to seeing you there!

Wildlife on our roads

Town Rangers are urging motorists to take extra care on local roads, following a recent increase in wildlife being struck near residential areas - particularly wallabies and kangaroos.

As urban development expands, local wildlife is increasingly venturing into suburban neighbourhoods in search of food and water. This growing overlap between roads and native animal habitats means drivers need to be more vigilant than ever.

Residents are reminded that if they see an injured or deceased animal on the road, they should immediately contact the Town’s Ranger Services or a local wildlife care group. In some cases, animals, particularly kangaroos, may be carrying joeys that can survive the impact if rescued in time.

The Town encourages everyone to drive safely, be alert for wildlife, especially at dawn and dusk, and enjoy the unique privilege of sharing our region with some truly remarkable native animals.

Let’s work together to keep both our community and our local wildlife safe.
