Wildlife on our roads
Town Rangers are urging motorists to take extra care on local roads, following a recent increase in wildlife being struck near residential areas - particularly wallabies and kangaroos.
As urban development expands, local wildlife is increasingly venturing into suburban neighbourhoods in search of food and water. This growing overlap between roads and native animal habitats means drivers need to be more vigilant than ever.
Residents are reminded that if they see an injured or deceased animal on the road, they should immediately contact the Town’s Ranger Services or a local wildlife care group. In some cases, animals, particularly kangaroos, may be carrying joeys that can survive the impact if rescued in time.
The Town encourages everyone to drive safely, be alert for wildlife, especially at dawn and dusk, and enjoy the unique privilege of sharing our region with some truly remarkable native animals.
Let’s work together to keep both our community and our local wildlife safe.
