As 2025 draws to a close, we want to reflect on the almost four months since we were appointed as your Commissioners.
Firstly, we want to say thank you! We feel incredibly lucky to be able to connect with such a wonderful, positive and welcoming community. Thank you for taking the time to meet with us, to provide us with your feedback, and to help us better understand what the community wants and needs.
We’ve had the pleasure of meeting with members of the Port Hedland Chamber of Commerce, we’ve met with senior staff from schools in Hedland, we’ve met with inspirational young people, we’ve met with a range of volunteer organisations and community groups, we’ve learnt about turtles, we’ve learnt more about the Port, and heard from many of the resource industries that use the port. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed meeting the community, and a recent highlight was chatting to a wide range of people at our Coffee with the Commissioners event. Thank you all for being so open and honest with your feedback and aspirations.
The overarching theme we’ve got from our many interactions and engagements has been that you want progress. You want to see stable, community-focused leadership for Hedland. You want to see a high performing, customer focused administration, you want to see beneficial partnerships between industry and the Town, and you want to see decisions being made that have the community at heart. You want to live in a town where you can thrive, not just survive.
Our focus is to steady the ship, to actively engage with the community, represent your interests and rebuild confidence in local government ahead of the election scheduled for Port Hedland on 28 March 2026.
You’ve all got a part to play too. As we move towards the March election, stay engaged in the process. We encourage you to consider standing as a candidate, to get behind those who you want to lead the community, check your details and enrol to vote, and then vote. Voting is the most direct way to shape Hedland’s future.
There will be plenty of information about the election process on the Town of Port Hedland’s website in the coming few months.
Change is in your hands.
Have a safe, relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable holiday (if you’re lucky enough to have one). We look forward to connecting with you again after the Christmas break. |
